About Fountains

History

Fountains Counselling Service was formed in 1996 by the late Reverend David Gardner, supported by the Reverend Jim Needham, under the title ‘Christian Support Services’.

A counsellor trainer at Keele University, David’s vision was to set up a counselling support service open to all and accessible to all. He developed a training course entitled Counselling Skills in a Christian Context to equip the volunteers with the basic skills required to offer this support.  Many counsellors went on to receive further training and later, to reflect this, the name of the service was changed to Christian Counselling Service (CCS).

2010 saw further growth and development of the service and a change of name to Fountains Counselling Service.  We hope this reflects something of our vision to reach more effectively into the wider community.

Fountains Today

Our volunteer counsellors offer a confidential counselling service to adults across Cannock, Stafford, Stoke on Trent and Market Drayton. They aim to provide a caring relationship within agreed boundaries and adhere to the Ethical Framework of the Association of Christian Counsellors.

Our counsellors are qualified to at least diploma level and we also have counsellors in training. They all receive regular supervision and ongoing training.

A volunteer Management Committee manages the service, supported by other volunteers who form a Personnel Committee. Development of the service has included the employment of a part-time administrator whose role is to offer administrative support to the counsellors, seek funding and generally promote the service.

Whilst Christian in origin and ethos, Fountains Counselling Service is largely non-directional in style and counsellors will therefore not promote their own faith beliefs within sessions. Fountains is non-denominational and open to anyone, regardless of race, class, religion or gender, faith or no faith.

Fountains Funding and Support

Fountains Counselling Service is entirely dependent on the financial support of individuals, grants and trusts to enable us to provide our service. Many of our clients make donations towards the cost of their counselling. However, this does not cover the actual cost of this service and so we welcome regular or one-off gifts to support our work.

We also welcome prayer support and we would love to hear from you so that we can keep you informed through our newsletter.

Should you wish to give financially, please contact us via our email so that we can enable you to make your donation or send your cheque (payable to Fountains Counselling Service) to: Fountains Counselling Service, c/o Rising Brook Baptist Church, Burton Square, Rising Brook, Stafford, ST17 9LT.
